Arriva has welcomed nine new biogas buses to its fleet in Runcorn following a £2million investment.
The new 43 seater carbon-neutral models are powered by renewable gas from waste products such as household food or animal waste, and complies with the latest Euro 6 emission standards – reducing the level of harmful exhaust emissions.
The new single deck buses form part of Arriva’s wider clean air strategy, which will see a total of 72 hybrid, gas and electric buses introduced to services across Merseyside during 2017 after a wider £21million investment in the Liverpool City Region.*
Phil Stone, Regional Managing Director for Arriva North West and Wales, commented: “We are very proud to be adding a total of 72 eco-friendly models to our fleet this year, and hope that their introduction will help to dramatically reduce our carbon footprint as part of Arriva’s wider clean air mission.
“Every aspect of these new buses has been designed to be more environmentally friendly, from the interior e-leather seats to the reduced carbon emissions. We are hopeful that these updates combined with the free onboard Wi-Fi and USB power points will make travelling by bus easier making them the preferred choice for everyday journeys”
The new biogas buses will contribute to Arriva’s environmental goals as part of its journey to ‘Destination Green’, taking action to reduce the operator’s impact on the planet’s resources.
The new biogas buses will run on service 82A travelling from Runcorn and Widnes to Liverpool John Lennon Airport and the city centre.
*Includes £5million of Government (OLEV) funding for new, greener buses, sourced with a joint bid as part of the Liverpool city region Bus Alliance.
