Local bus driver, Steve Pugh has been selected as a finalist for the prestigious ‘Driver of the Year’ title.

Steve Pugh from St Helens was initially shortlisted for the award in February after being chosen by passengers for his outstanding customer care. Since then, he has gone head-to- head with other Arriva drivers in the North West and has been voted as one of six to go through to the national final.

The Driver of the Year award will be presented at a glamorous awards ceremony on 25th April, where Arriva staff from across all regions will come together for the highly anticipated event.

Steve commented: “I would like to thank everyone who has voted for me so far to help me reach this stage of the competition. I feel so honoured to have made it down to the final six, especially out of all the wonderful and talented drivers that were shortlisted.

“I feel proud to represent the North West at the awards and no matter what the outcome is, my hard work and passion will certainly not end here!”

The award, which is given to those in recognition of their dedication and willingness to go the extra mile over the course of the last 12 months, is part of Arriva’s annual ‘Made a Difference’ awards.

Cora Woodhouse, marketing director for Arriva commented: “We would like to thank everyone who took the time to vote , it has certainly been a pleasure to read about the excellent customer service our drivers provide and the difference they make to their communities.

“We would like to wish the final six the best of luck in the final stage of the competition.”
