A new initiative which supports young people aged between 16 and 29 who are currently not in education, employment or training into sustainable employment has been launched in Liverpool.
The City Social Partnership will involve public and private sector organisations working together to identify local employment needs and skills shortages across Liverpool city region, and developing job ready, motivated young people.
The programme is led by Tomorrow’s People, a national charity which has been working on Merseyside since the year 2000. Tomorrow’s People provides work coaches and mentors for young people, helping them to develop the skills needed to enter employment. Trained support coaches offer in-work care for a minimum of 12 months afterwards.
Gilly Orr, Head of Social Partnerships at Tomorrow’s People, said:
“The City Social Partnership is an exciting new chapter for us. For 30 years, Tomorrow’s People has equipped young people with the skills they need to get into employment. This partnership model allows us to develop a sustainable programme that benefits young people, businesses and the entire community.
“This programme is only possible because of the variety of organisations who offer their support and I’d like thank everyone who came along to today’s event. Working together, we can deliver life changing opportunities for young people all over Liverpool city region and I am excited to get started.”
The initiative is being supported by First Ark, a social business based in Liverpool city region. First Ark is dedicated to creating life changing opportunities that inspire people and generate growth in the communities in which it works. First Ark have worked with Tomorrow’s People for 15 years and the company’s executive director, Tony Cahill, hosted the City Social Partnership launch event in Liverpool City Centre.

“Employment is not just about earning money to pay for life’s essentials, it gives people dignity and purpose. That’s why it’s so important to engage young people who, for whatever reason, haven’t been able to develop the skills needed to enter the jobs market. Tomorrow’s People have an excellent track record in delivering the social impact that First Ark work so hard to support and I look forward to seeing the programme deliver positive change in our local communities.”
