Merseyrail has made a big step towards bringing simpler ticketing solutions to passengers with the launch of their online Day Saver purchasing platform.

As of last Thursday (25 July), passengers are now able to purchase Adult Merseyrail Day Savers (£5.30) and 18 & under Merseyrail Day Savers (£2.65) from the Merseyrail website.

These are valid for unlimited off-peak travel on all Merseyrail services across the network, saving passengers time queuing at ticket offices.

Online Day Savers are available here: www.merseyrail.org/daysaver.

Once purchased, the tickets will be sent to the passenger direct via email where they can be either printed out or shown via their mobile phone.

This change makes travelling on Merseyrail much more convenient for passengers. They can plan their journey online in advance, purchase their tickets and turn up to any station to enjoy Merseyrail’s regular and reliable service as one of the most punctual train operators in the country.

Passengers wanting to make the most of their online Day Savers will never be stuck for things to do using Merseyrail’s Destination Merseyside online planner – a dedicated leisure site showcasing the best destinations, attractions, events and outdoor spaces across the network.

It is the next step in a period of transformation for Merseyrail, as Weekly, Monthly and Annual Railpass season tickets are now loaded onto contactless Merseytravel smart cards which can be purchased at any ticket office.

This move will also reduce the amount of paper used across the network, following Merseyrail’s decision to stop automatically printing receipts – saving up to 6km of paper every year.

Suzanne Grant, Commercial Director at Merseyrail, said: “This is a fantastic step towards paperless ticketing for Merseyrail, and a great way of helping our passengers save time and travel more easily.

“Our journey towards smart ticketing is continuing and small changes like this will have a great impact on passengers – streamlining the ticket buying process and making travelling with Merseyrail even easier.”

Liam Robinson, Chair of the Transport Committee of Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, said: “I’m delighted that train passengers will now have the option to purchase Merseyrail Day Saver tickets online, allowing them to travel across our City Region and beyond with just the click of a button.

“It’s another important step forward in delivering new smart and online ticket options for our whole transport network, which will make travelling easier and ensure that users always get the best value fare when they travel.”
