National Engineering and Transport Planning consultancy Curtins has teamed up with the New Civil Engineer to launch a new event for 2018, Recognising Women in Engineering.
2018 has been a significant year for women in general so far: this year marks a century since women were given the right to vote, the government introduced the Gender Pay Gap Reporting law for companies with a workforce of over 250 employees in order to close said gap, and the #metoo movement was launched against sexual harassment in the workplace. Furthermore 2018 is the Year of Engineering, a government initiative which aims to encourage and inspire young people – in particular young women – to consider engineering as a career choice.
Therefor it has never been more important to introduce an event to celebrate the many personal firsts that women in the civil engineering sector achieve, such as being the first woman to sit on a firm’s board or the first woman to lead a major project.
Diversity, inclusion and success for all is a key driver for Curtins and a value that the company believe many of their achievements can be attributed to, however more can always be done.
The Recognising Women in Engineering event represents a unique opportunity for women in engineering to gain recognition at a national level and have their fantastic achievements celebrated at an exclusive dinner hosted by Curtins and New Civil Engineer in central London.
You do not need to be a Civil Engineer to enter, entrants can be from any discipline within a civil engineering firm. In particular, the judges are looking for women who have made a major contribution to their firm or towards a project’s successful outcome.
