Tourism Sample for Students

Next week students across the city region will be able to sample for themselves what life would be like working in the tourism industry.

‘Visitor Economy Week’ runs from 6 – 9 February offering secondary school pupils taster sessions covering hospitality, retail, tourism and travel.

There are over 60 events being run across seven colleges in the Liverpool City Region, plus other venues including Mersey Ferries, Knowsley Safari Park, Albert Dock and Goodison Park, with sponsors Liverpool ONE also running events. Merseytravel:
Ferries and Spaceport Tour – a trip on the Mersey Ferry and visit to Spaceport covering the sights and sounds of the river including a running commentary about the historical and cultural attractions on both sides of the river.
6 February

Liverpool ONE:
Under, On and Over – the team at Liverpool ONE and Merseyside Maritime Museum will be giving a guided tour of Liverpool’s commercial heritage including a tour of the Old Dock and birds eye overview from the Hilton Hotel.
7 – 8 February

Knowsley Community College:
Sail the World – an insight on working in the cruise industry as a performing artist.
9 February

St Helens College:
Master Butchery Class – with cuts being prepared for fine dining.
7 February

Southport College:
Skills Clash – inter-College Skills clash competition. Hospitality & Catering, Hairdressing & Beauty Therapy and Childcare students compete against each other in a variety of disciplines.
9 February

City of Liverpool College:
Guest Chef Masterclasses – covering Indian street food, a Michelin starred tasting menu and local restaurants 60 Hope Street and the Art School also taking part.
7 – 9 February

Riverside College:
Learn the Lingo – how to extend basic phrases to improve life skills and open up job opportunities.
6 February

Wirral Met College:
Careers in the Aviation Industry – hosted by Swissport, one of the largest aviation employers nationally, will include talks, demonstrations and activities about the industry.
8 February

Hugh Baird College:
Maritime City – Past, Present and Future – this tour will highlight the global significance of Liverpool and its docks over time and reveal how the city interacted with the world through its port.
8 February

Peter Sandman, Head of Visitor Economy at Liverpool City Region Local Enterprise Partnership, said: “These four days of activity will provide students with a real taste of what opportunities are available in this industry and what life can be like. The events are designed to be informative, interactive and fun aimed at educating the next generation that the region’s visitor economy is a progressive career choice.”
