Liverpool’s style credentials will be put to the test through a new competition being launched by VisitLiverpool.

‘Dress to Impress’ is an online social media based competition encouraging both men and women to post pictures of themselves in their finest outfits – whether it be for a wedding, going for a night out or to work or college.

The competition began on Friday 22 March and runs until Friday 12 April with people being invited to email the pictures through the VisitLiverpool Facebook and Twitter accounts, with the best being posted.

Entrants are invited to showcase their best outfit and ‘dress to impress’, those shortlisted will be asked along to the final at Cavern Walks in Liverpool, on Thursday 25 April. Justine Mills, CEO of Cricket in Cavern Walks will be one of the judges.

Finalists will be asked to attend wearing the outfit that they were shortlisted in, with many prizes up for grabs including a first prize of £200 of shopping vouchers, and all finalists will receive an overnight stay at the Marriott Hotel – Liverpool and meal for two at Gecko in Queen Square.

Duncan Frazer, Commercial and Marketing Director at Liverpool City Region Local Enterprise Partnership, which encompasses VisitLiverpool – the city’s official tourist board, said: “Coming into spring, this is a perfect time to showcase the city and celebrate our unique sense of style. We are confident of finding winners that are distinctive and make a real impact.

“The retail offer in Liverpool has been helped hugely by the £1billion Liverpool ONE retail and leisure complex, this has kept shoppers in the city, and complements the already well established diverse shopping choice at Cavern Walks, Metquarter and Bold Street – so lots of places to get that impressive outfit from!”

Ged Gibbons, Chief Operating Officer of City Central BID, which represents more than 400 shops in the heart of Liverpool city centre, said: ‘’Liverpool is the fashion conscious capital of the UK. Our major high street stores are among the busiest in the country and home grown brands like Cricket and Nook and Willow are renowned the world over. In so many ways Liverpudlians express themselves through what they wear and this Dress to Impress competition captures that spirit perfectly.’’
