The IoD will present a potential strategy for achieving the Northern Powerhouse. A panel of Northern based business leaders will then discuss the approach and challenge the business community on what needs to be done to make the Northern Powerhouse a success. There will be an opportunity for audience involvement to pose questions and suggest ideas.

Patrick Walters
Group Commercial Director, Peel Ports

Patrick Walters has worked in the ports industry for over 20 years, initially with P&O Ports and DP World. In 2014 he was appointed Group Commercial Director at Peel Ports where he oversees contract negotiations, sales and marketing, property matters and business intelligence. He is particularly focussed on promoting Liverpool2, Peel Ports’ new container terminal which opens in 2016 and will be capable of handling the largest container vessels in the global fleet today.

Between 2008 and 2013 he held the position of Commercial Director at Associated British Ports.

Between 1995 and 2008 he worked for the P&O Group and DP World in the UK and the USA. Immediately prior to the acquisition of P&O Ports by DP World, Patrick held Managing Director positions in its two principal UK subsidiaries. In 2006, Patrick became Regional Director for DP World’s Europe, N. Africa and Russia region.

Patrick is a graduate of Oxford University and qualified as a Chartered Accountant with KPMG.


Paul Kenyon
Avecto Co-founder and Co-CEO
A serial tech entrepreneur, Paul Kenyon is the Co-founder and Co-CEO of Avecto. With responsibility for Avecto’s sales division, Paul works closely with CIOs in some of the world’s leading organisations to provide guidance on business strategy and security best practice. Jenny Stewart
Chief Executive, Liverpool & Sefton Chamber of Commerce

Jenny joined the Chamber in 2006 as Head of Membership, was named Chief Executive Officer at Liverpool Chamber in November 2012. The Chamber’s mission is to create business by enabling companies to grow, by facilitating networks and business contacts and encouraging business to trade globally. It delivers the National Apprenticeship Service creating more than 300 new jobs each year for young people. Jenny founded the Spark Up programme at the chamber which works with early start entrepreneurs. In two years, Spark Up has worked with 120 entrepreneurs, created 130 jobs and enabled £550, 000 business finance.

In her early years, Jenny joined HM Diplomatic service at just 17, and worked in the North America Department of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. She also worked in the FCO emergency unit during the Falklands Island conflict. Later, she joined the private sector with BT and since then has held director level commercial posts with medium and large businesses. Jenny owned her own business in Sutton in Ashfield, and another on the Wirral. She is a director of the Liverpool Bid Company, Health@Work, Liverpool Compact and Autism Adventures Ltd.


Jenny is now delighted to be working in the heart of the city and has what she describes as “the best job in the world”. It’s her pleasure to talk to local, national and international business community.
