A huge boost for industry in Halton, as WSR Recycling has recently been granted approval to increase the tonnage capacity on site from 200,000T to 300,000T. This is great news, not only for WSR Recycling but for Halton itself, because strong and successful industry empowers the entire borough, with sustainable local employment and less mileage for waste to travel.

The planning approval for increasing WSR’s waste tonnage capacity by 200,000T to 300,000T provides an exciting new chapter for WSR Recycling. There is now huge capacity for WSR to take on new business and contracts; something that they are eager, ready and have the capacity to do. Now, more businesses can take advantage of the streamlined waste management systems already in place at WSR; with the assurance and confidence that their waste, will be dealt with, in both an efficient and environmentally responsible way.

WSR is looking forward to building on their current success, and to continue to work with its local authorities, and major waste management companies like FCC Environment, Viridor, Veolia, Sita and Biffa. WSR are now, seeking out new opportunities to strengthen links with other businesses and to maintain a sustainable business network, all trading and growing together in Halton.

Industry, has historically been the backbone of business within Halton, and WSR are proud to have been be a long standing member of that community since 1935. WSR Recycling is a privately owned, family run business which specialises in recycling and waste management services, based in Widnes and run by husband and wife team Nick and Amanda Prescott.

As the business grows, WSR Recycling will be able to increase the workforce by once again turning to the local community to offer more employment opportunities.

On the approval of extra tonnage being granted Nick Prescott said;

“The local enterprise grant was a massive boost to help the business and the community and to enable WSR to offer new jobs to local people. This allowed WSR to invest and further develop in the business to sustain the longevity of work and the service we have provided over the years. We look forward to continually developing and growing in the future”

WSR would like to thank all those involved in the process, in particular, Halton Borough Council and the Liverpool City Region Enterprise Partnership for their continued support along with all their past and present customers, fellow waste management companies who WSR are proud to have worked with and of course the staff without them there would not be a business.”

Halton Borough Council’s Executive Board member for Environment, Cllr Stef Nelson, says:

“This is good news for the company and the Halton economy as it means a local family business can grow, and also create more jobs in the borough. WSR have proven to be a reliable waste management company and last year they dealt with over 30,000 tonnes of waste collected by the Council. They have provided a high quality, competitive service to the Council for many years and I am delighted that they are thriving.”

Interim Chair of the Liverpool City Region Local Enterprise Partnership, LEP, Asif Hamid said:

“WSR Recycling are a great example of a family business investing to keep up with a challenging market place. By adding our support via a grant from our hugely successful Business Growth Grant programme WSR Recycling were able to invest in new equipment and grow their customer base, which in turn created and safeguarded a number of jobs. The LEP exists to support business and to champion their needs. It is therefore very pleasing to see WSR Recycling continue to expand and invest in Halton.”

WSR Recycling is governed by the Environment Agency and are fully committed to continually improve its environmental performance. WSR recognise the need, to not only to work closely with the local community to effectively manage the impact of its activities on the environment, but take responsibility for sustaining the local environment too. As such, they fully comply with the applicable legislative requirements through the implementation of the environmental management system BS EN ISO 14001:2004. In addition WSR have recently invested within their 8 acre site by adding extra warehouses and investing in more high tech spec plant, machinery and trailers, all to make the sorting of the current, and future extra tonnage of waste, even more effective and efficient.
