Welcoming the news Robert Hough Chair of the Liverpool City Region LEP said: “I am delighted to see the proposed high-speed rail link between Birmingham and Crewe opening six years earlier than planned and therefore bringing the rest of the country closer to Liverpool City Region. At the LEP, we have always made the case for why investment around High Speed 2 will exponentially stimulate growth and how we, as a City Region, will do everything possible to achieve a direct HS2 link to Liverpool City Centre.”

Robert added: “I am also very pleased with the news that John Cridland has been appointed as Chair of Transport for the North Partnership Board. This body will continue to help transform transport connectivity across the Northern Powerhouse.”
