Businesses across Liverpool City Region could benefit from a £30m fund to improve skills training and drive economic growth.
The cash would help employers create training programmes that best meet the needs of their businesses.
Liverpool City Region’s Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) Board is backing a bid to secure the funds through a new “City Deal” being negotiated with the Government.
LEP Board members, representing the City Region’s private and public sectors, received an update on the scheme at their meeting on Thursday. (April 12)
LEP Chair Robert Hough said: “Ensuring that skill supply better meets what business actually wants is essential if we are to get more people into work and secure greater investment in our economy. That is a priority for this LEP.”
He added: “This is all about driving forward the competitiveness of the City Region. To achieve that, we must present a compelling case to potential investors to locate here and access to a skilled workforce is essential.”
A decision on the City Deal agreement is expected later this year.
