Government Minister Hugh Robertson visited the Liverpool City Region LEP last week. (Friday 26 October, 2012)
The Minister of State for Sport, Olympic Legacy and Tourism was welcomed by LEP Chair Robert Hough.
After a tour of the city, Hugh Robertson joined LEP Members and other business leaders to discuss the City Region’s Visitor Economy.
Minister for Sport and Tourism, Hugh Robertson said: “Liverpool is a world famous city, renowned for its vibrant music, cultural and sporting traditions. It was great to meet the Liverpool Local Enterprise Partnership and hear about its plans to explore more opportunities to grow the local economy and enhance the city’s reputation as one of this country’s leading tourist destinations, which will have my strong personal support.”
Chair of the LEP Robert Hough said: “With a visitor spend of £3.1billion a year supporting an estimated 43,300 jobs the City Region is fast becoming one of the top international destinations to visit. It is testament to the success of our Visitor Economy that the Minister for Sport and Culture wanted to come to Liverpool to see, first hand, how and what has worked well for us in the City Region.
“The meeting with the Minister provided a valuable opportunity to discuss the City Region’s historic and cultural assets, skills and employment opportunities for young people, as well as the need for infrastructure improvements to be able to continue to compete with other destinations.”
