SUPERPORT Assets on show at Multimodal 2014

Assets and investment opportunities in Liverpool City Region’s SUPERPORT are being showcased to a global audience next week. (29 April to 1 May)

£1bn is currently being invested in the City Region infrastructure to develop a global freight and logistics hub for UK and Ireland with the potential to create over 22,000 new local jobs, according to the City Region’s Local Growth Deal submitted to Government this month.

The LEP and key partners including local authorities, Abbey Logistics, Lombard Shipping & Forwarding and Royal London Asset Management are working together to ensure logistics sites are fully showcased in the City Region such as Knowsley Industrial and Business Park and Atlantic Park, at Multimodal 2014, the sector’s biggest annual UK gathering taking place at the National Exhibition Centre, Birmingham from 29 April- 1 May. Mark Basnett, SUPERPORT Executive Director at Liverpool City Region LEP said: “The SUPERPORT message is strong – Liverpool City Region offers excellent, cost-effective, low carbon multimodal connectivity for UK and Ireland logistics operations.

Mark added: “The City Region Local Growth Deal has identified the development of Liverpool City Region Freight and Logistics Hub as a key strategic project that will accelerate economic growth and create new jobs across the City Region. Therefore, it is important for us, with our partners, to present our SUPERPORT credentials to such an audience.”

Dale Milburn, Director of Business, Investment and Sustainability at Knowsley Council added: “Once again we are delighted to be working with the LEP and other partners to promote SUPERPORT at Multimodal. The Council is currently investing in a major regeneration programme at Knowsley Industrial and Business Park – one of the largest in the country – and there are a range of sites ready for development for logistics related businesses and forms a key part of the wider Liverpool City Region SUPERPORT offer.”

Bernard Molloy, Chair of the Liverpool City Region LEP SUPERPORT Committee, is chairing a Freight Transport Association seminar entitled ‘How to move freight by water’ at 10.30 on Wednesday, 30 April.

Also on Wednesday, 30 April, Mark Basnett, SUPERPORT Executive Director at Liverpool City Region LEP will be speaking at the Rail Freight Group meeting.
